The A6 has long been the executive Audi of choice in South Africa, and the cars that earned that reputation are now squarely in used-spares territory. We dismantle the full lineage, from the C5 (1997-2004) and C6 through to the C7 and C8. Running costs on a big Audi only stay reasonable if you can source second-hand parts, and an A6 is exactly the kind of car where a quality salvaged component turns an expensive repair into a manageable one.

Each engine in the range brings its own demand. The much-loved 2.7T biturbo on the C5 needs turbos, coolant lines and pipework; the 2.0 TDI and 3.0 TDI cars keep us busy with injectors, EGR valves and DPF-related parts; and the multitronic CVT fitted to many front-wheel-drive A6s is a known weak spot, so good used gearboxes are always in demand. The later cars on adaptive air suspension also send a steady stream of owners our way looking for struts and compressors at a sensible price.

For bodywork and electronics the A6 is a rich donor. Matrix LED and xenon headlights, bumpers, doors, mirrors, MMI navigation units, instrument clusters, comfort seats and trim all come off cleanly and are tested before sale.
