If your housing and bearings are sound, a ratio-matched crown wheel and pinion on its own can save you even more.
Differentials are ratio-specific: the final drive has to match your gearbox and the opposite axle, or you’ll get driveline wind-up. On many longitudinal cars the front diff is built into the main gearbox, so it’s usually sourced with the box rather than alone. Quote with your VIN and we’ll confirm the exact ratio before shipping.
If the diff has failed, the rest of the all-wheel-drive system is often due attention too. Yes, if your differential housing and bearings are sound, a ratio-matched crown wheel & pinion (diff centre) is the cheaper route. Note that fitting one is specialist work, it needs correct shimming and backlash setup. We’ll advise whether a full diff or a gear set suits your situation.
